Khagrachari: report on World Health Day 2023

On 7 April 2023, the World Health Day was celebrated with a rally and discussion session organized by the Khagracchari Civil Surgeon Office. The theme of World Health Day 2023 was 'Health for All.' The Civil Surgeon Office collaborated with DHRF (organization's name) for the program and requested their participation with around 30 participants.

The rally commenced at 9 am at Khagrachhari Town Hall and concluded at the Civil Surgeon Office. Following the rally, a discussion session took place in the hall room of the Civil Surgeon Office. Mr. Mongsuipru Chowdhuty, the Chairman of Khagrachhari Hill District Council, graced the discussion session as the chief guest, while Dr. Sahid Tlukder, the caretaker of Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital, chaired the session. Mr. Kallyan Mitra Browa, a KHDC member, attended as a special guest.
During the discussion session, Dr. Miton Chakma, Deputy Civil Surgeon of Khagrachhari, delivered a welcome speech and expressed gratitude to the NGOs for their support in making the event successful. He provided an overview of the background and objectives of World Health Day.

A brief presentation on the activities and overview of the Khagrachhari health sector was given by the health department of Khagrachhari through a PowerPoint presentation. Mr. Mathura Bikash Tripura, the Executive Director of ZKS, discussed the COVID vaccine program in Khagrachhari and emphasized the high vaccination rate achieved through the active efforts of the health department. He also highlighted the need to improve access to healthcare for people in remote and vulnerable areas.
Mr. Sadan Kumar Chakma, Chairperson of Health Rights Forum, Khagrachhari, described the forum as an NGO working to advocate for health rights and improve health services for all. Mr. Mongsuipro Chowdhuty, Chairman of KHDC, acknowledged the government's efforts to enhance healthcare services and expressed the council's commitment to supporting further improvements. He mentioned the current ranking of Khagrachhari District Hospital and the ongoing construction work to expand its facilities. He also emphasized the advanced COVID vaccination rate in Khagrachhari and urged everyone to play a positive role in ensuring better healthcare services.

Dr. Sahid Talukder, the Caretaker of Khagrachhari District Hospital, discussed the different services provided by the government in the health sector, including the Community Clinic and the Tribal Health Plan, which aims to provide healthcare to vulnerable remote populations.

The joined event on World Health Day 2023 provided an opportunity for closer involvement with the health department of Khagrachhari District and facilitated better coordination and communication between the government and NGOs working on health issues.
