BHW organized an Advocacy Meeting on 14th November 2022 at Brac Centre Inn auditorium. They have brought together the local-level service-providing institutions, the local-level civil society watchdog body for health, the District Health Rights Forum (DHRF), and the national policymakers.
BHW is working with Eight Regional Chapters comprised of different types of stakeholders including non-government organisations (NGOs), civil society organization (CSO) activists/members, youth leaders and citizens of a region based in a district/sub-district/union headquarters. Each regional chapter is hosted by an NGO/CSO, including a health rights forum of active citizens who are motivated to play an active role in improving the quality of health services at the local level.
The purpose of the advocacy meeting was to raise the voices and demands of the grassroots through DHRF by sharing their health right issues and recommendations for promoting health status at the local level. The chief guest of the event was Dr Ahmedul Kabir, Additional Director General, DGHS. The Special guests were Dr. Nasrin Akhter, Deputy Director, PHC, DGHS and Dr. Abdul Matin, Assistant Director, PHC, DGHS.
One of the agendas of the meeting was to share the research findings on “Collecting feedback from the community on public health care services in selected areas of Bangladesh.” Other agendas were sharing the grassroots voice, and discussing the problems, challenges, and prospects of the regional chapter. Adrita Kaiser discussed the research findings and recommendation of the study, “Collecting feedback from the community on public health care services in selected areas of Bangladesh.”.
After the research finding presentation, the question-answer session started. The DHRF members shared their experiences from their locality.
The Chief guest and special guest gave their speeches. After their speech, the guests inaugurated the “Shastho Adhikar Barta”, a bulletin of grassroots citizen’s voice.
After lunch, the host organization focal persons, Executive directors and DHRF members shared their experiences. They also discussed their challenges.
