Bangladesh Health Watch organized a discussion meeting on the recommendations of women's health, as proposed by the Women's Reform Commission, was held on June 29 at the conference room of BRAC Tower, Mohakhali and organised. The speakers emphasised the need to ensure good health for all women.
At the event, public health expert Dr. Halida Hanum Akhter presented the keynote paper. She highlight recommendations related to women's health from the report of the Women's Reform Commission.
Key recommendations were: i) ensuring adequate healthcare services for marginalised and remote communities, especially for indigenous women and girls, special arrangements in maternal and reproductive health service centres, implementation, monitoring, and accountability for the National Menstrual Health Management Guidelines and Strategy 2001, regulating unnecessary caesarean sections following the 2023 High Court directive, developing relevant policies, and ensuring compliance across all government and private hospitals and clinics.
Dr. Akhter also specified which recommendations could be implemented by the interim government and which by the upcoming elected government.
During the open discussion session after the keynote presentation, several important issues were raised, including, a) healthcare services for marginalised women,b) healthcare services for urban women c) effectiveness of community clinics and d) women’s cancers and related healthcare issues.
Participants in the discussion included public health experts such as Dr. Abu Jamil Faisal, Abu Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Dr. Tasnim Azim, as well as other researchers and academicians.
The session was chaired by Dr. Ahmad Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, and the overall program was moderated by Dr. Yasmin Ahmed. At the end of the event, Shireen Parveen Huq, Head of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission, delivered the vote of thanks.
