A planning meeting was held at the office of Sabalamby Unnayan Samiti, in Netrokona, on Wednesday at 11 am at the conference room of the SUS office to improve the quality of local health services. The meeting was jointly organized by Netrokona District Health Rights Forum and Sabalamby Unnayan Samiti in collaboration with Bangladesh Health Watch.

Abu Saeed Md. Mahbubur Rahman attended the planning workshop as chief guest while Netrokona Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Ahsan Kabir Riyad was the special guest. District Health Rights Forum President Prof. Matindra Chandra Sarkar presided over the planning meeting. Begum Rokeya, General Secretary of the Forum and Executive Director of Sabalamby Unnayan Samiti and Showpoun Kumar Paul, Program Director of SUS were also present there.

At the meeting, members of the District Health Rights Forum and Health Rights Youth Forum analysed the current state of district health services and worked out an action plan for the year 2022. The program includes; ensuring efficient use of existing equipment in healthcare facilities, ensuring waste management, improving hygiene situation, introducing caesarean section and regular delivery system in Upazila health complexes and advocacy, networking with the public to raise expected delivery to community clinics. Asma Akter, Coordinator Field operation, Rajesh Adhikary and Morshed Alam facilitated the workshop.

The following priorities have been identified through the workshop which the District Health Rights Forum will take various initiatives to address by 2022.

  • Ensuring cleanliness of district and Upazila hospitals
  • Ensuring drinking water and sanitation in district and Upazila hospitals and community clinics
  • Improving hospital waste management
  • Ensuring effective use of existing equipment
  • Ensuring normal and caesarean section in Upazila Hospital
  • Activate support groups in community clinics
  • Increase the adequate medicines to community clinics
  • Ensure regular opening of community clinics
  • Improving transportation to community clinics
  • Arranging normal delivery to the community clinic
